Does your county have tract indexing?
No. We index and search by name only. See basic format next line.
Last Name Space First Name no punctuation. Using only 3 letters of First Name will return more results. Example: “Ste” better than Steven.
Does your county require a legal description with releases and assignments?
If it is a Full Release or Assignment, No. If it’s a Partial Release or Assignment a Full Metes and Bounds Legal Description is required for the property being released.
Does your county have Registered Land aka Torrens Land?
No
What is the turnaround time for documents?
They are generally recorded the same day they are received. The hard copies are returned to submitters after indexing accuracy and proofing controls are completed which takes anywhere from one to three days on average.
Do you have Soldier Discharge Records?
Yes but they are no longer open public records until 75 years after their recording date. However copies with redactions can be made for the public but only the Veteran and others designated by Ohio Revised Code 317.24 can get an unredacted copy prior to the 75 year recording date.
Can I prepare my own documents?
Yes, however it is highly recommended that you consult an attorney with a practice and background in your area of need. All documents recorded in the office are authorized by State and Federal laws, rules and guidelines. We cannot give advice about the legal content of documents or help to prepare them for you.
How do I pay?
We accept cash, checks or money orders with a picture ID payable at time of service.
How do I know if there are liens on my property?
It is highly recommended when purchasing property to have a proper title search completed by an Attorney that specializes in Real Estate or a Title Company. If you are getting a loan to purchase the property the Lender will generally require a title search be done prior to lending money. Although the Recorder’s Office can assist you on how to search or access the records we cannot perform searches for you.
What is eRecording?
eRecording is the process of submitting documents for recording online and having them reviewed, recorded, and returned back to the submitter electronically. Federal and State laws strictly outline the procedures and safeguards that must be in place to accept electronic documents for recording. Ross County has been eRecording since November 2016.
